In this episode of A Scouts Perspective I am profiling safety prospects to include: Darian Thompson, Karl Joseph, Jeremy Cash, Justin Simmons and Trevon Stewart.
A Scouts Perspective is Your Daily Cowboys Football Fix’ brand new Radio Talk Show. It is hosted by our in-house scout, Mike Ray.
In our ongoing effort to provide the premier Cowboys’ fan experience, we wanted to be able to offer comprehensive coverage of the Dallas Cowboys, their opponents, their players, the NFL Draft as a whole and on potential draft prospects for the Cowboys. A Scouts Perspective will give you a unique insight on all things football.
DarianThompson received All-American recognition in each of the past two seasons. After picking off seven passes in 2014, he added five more in just 11 games this season, totaling 19 for his career (tied for the most of any player in the country). But the 6-foot-2, 205-pound defender isn’t just a ballhawk — he is a physical presence in the secondary and solid tackler in space (242 career tackles) and behind the line of scrimmage (8.5 tackles for loss in 2015). Another impressive season in 2015, even though he missed the final two regular season games with a concussion, cemented his status as one of the best all-around safeties in the draft class.
Pro Day Results
40-yard dash: 4.0 seconds
Bench press: 13 reps of 225 pounds
Tall, angular build for the position. Eye-popping interception numbers (19) becoming the all-time leader in Boise State history this season. Soft hands and can make difficult, diving interceptions. Willing to take a chance to undercut throws and will run through receivers catch point to disrupt. Ready hitter with desired physical demeanor to play around line of scrimmage. Willing to sacrifice his body against pulling linemen in order to cave in the edge. Able to bob and weave around traffic and consistently choose the correct lane to find running backs. Saw tackle for loss numbers increase each year and will make his own luck on other side of the line. (NFL Combine Bio)
