Week 5 The Difficulty Begins
Week 5 the Cowboys face off against the Cincinnati Bengals. Don’t let their record or rankings fool you. They were a solid playoff team last year. They started off the season facing three very formidable front sevens. The Jets, Steelers and Broncos respectively. Andy Dalton was a top five fantasy quarterback last year and has some solid weapons.
Their 3 tech defensive tackle, Geno Atkins, amassed 11 sacks last year (the most among DTs) and he is just as stout against the run. Their RB Jeremy Hill, is a solid back who has averaged 4.1 YPC and amassed 3 rushing TDs thus far. Giovani Bernard completes the one-two punch. Bernard is 2nd on the team with 16 receptions for a 141 yards and 1 TD.
All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Green, despite facing three of the leagues better defenses, has amassed 22 receptions for 295 yards and a touchdown. He is a serious threat. This years draft pick Tyler Boyd and Brandon Lafell complete a formidable wide receiver corp. Andy Dalton is not afraid to attack defenses down field and the Bengals run a pretty balanced attack. This will prove to be a challenge for the Cowboys defense. The Bengals have averaged 1sack per game thus far in 2016. Their biggest weakness is the offensive line. They have allowed 12 sacks in just 3 games.
Week 6 Gets Even More Difficult
Week 6 the Cowboys head to Lambeau field to face off against future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers boasts the highest career passer rating of all time (104.0) and he is 5th all time in the post season (98.2). Remarkably, Bart Starr still holds the highest postseason passer rating of all time (104.8).
Notably, despite the fact he played in a much tougher era without all of the protection rules, his postseason PR is higher than Rodgers regular season PR. Starr spent a lot more time in the post season too. He boasts two Super Bowl titles (I and II) and owns 5 NFL championship titles (1961, 1962, 1965–1967). He is the only quarterback in NFL history to win three consecutive championships (65, 66, 67) and own a total of 5..
Most Cowboys fans are familiar with the 1967 “Ice Bowl” when Bart Starr beat Tom Landry’s Cowboys with a QB sneak in the final seconds of the game. Remarkable if you ask me.
Thus far in 2016, Rodgers has amassed 617 yards (very low for him) 7 TDs and just 1 INT for a passer rating of 98.6. His numbers appear so low because of his match-up with the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota handed him his only loss week 2. I have nicknamed them “The Quarterback Killers”. We will get to that later.
Despite having a high-octane offense, The packers have a dominant defense as well. The Packers sit atop the NFL allowing a meager 42.7 rushing yards per game. They are tied for 3rd in the NFL with 10 sacks. Are you getting Michael’s drift? Dak Prescott is not going to compete with Rodgers in the passing game. He is not going to be able to rely on the running game. We need Tony Romo week 6.
