Top 5 NFL Cheaters

The draft has come and gone, which doesn’t leave a whole lot to cover until OTA’s officially get under way. When I read that the Eagles were in the news as the next alleged NFL cheaters, I decided to research the subject a bit.

top 5 nfl cheaters

Despite the media led popular belief, the New England Patriots are actually near the bottom of the league when it comes to being NFL cheaters. They rank 25th among the 32 teams. In fact, our beloved Cowboys earned more cheat points.

Top 5 NFL Cheaters: Jimmy Johnson still loved by cowboys fansMy mother always said people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. NFL fans should take heed to her advise. Especially Cowboys fans such as myself. If you pay any attention to social media, not only Cowboys’ fans, but fans of all 32 teams allow themselves to be led  by the main stream media. If you pay any attention to them, you would think that the Patriots are the only NFL cheaters out there, and people forget to look in their own back yard before talking smack.

When I began my research I never imagined there was a website dedicated solely to exposing NFL cheaters. When I discovered Your Team Cheats, I was amazed by the information they made available and I need to give them credit for the information I used.. Although I was shocked by the information, I was relieved to see that despite being bigger NFL cheaters than the Patriots, my Cowboys weren’t making the list. In fact, the biggest NFL Cheaters are teams you never hear about in the news and all 32 teams have been guilty of what the national media slams the Patriots for at one time or another.

Remember the media circus surrounding Spygate? Well, if you’re a Cowboys’ fan you will be shocked at what I am about to tell you. Said former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson:

“When I came into the NFL, back in ’89, I talked to a Kansas City scout and he said, ‘Here’s what we do, we videotape the opposing team’s signals and then we sync it up with the game film.’ So I did it.”

But hey, all 32 teams were guilty of it. The difference is, the media singled out the Patriots because they have defied the entire purpose of the salary cap. It was designed to create parity in the  league. Bill Belichick not only became the first coach to surpass Tom Landry’s record for playoff wins, he is the only coach able to get close enough to even sniff Landry’s record of 20 consecutive winning seasons with 16. The NFL doesn’t like that folks. Neither do the other 31 owners. The best way to counter that is label them as NFL cheaters.

The Indianapolis Colts cried cheat over a little bit of air pressure in the balls causing Deflate Gate, which has resulted in Tom Brady receiving a suspension and the team losing their first round draft pick. The thing is, a lot of QB’s have done this and it has been going on for years. The Colts received 35 cheat points as compared to 20 by New England. Truth be told, they are bigger cheaters than the team they cried cheat on.

Ex-Eagles and retired Pro Bowl quarterback, Jeff Blake, confessed in an interview that removing air from footballs was common when he played in the NFL from 1992-2005.

“I’m just going to let the cat of the bag, every team does it, every game, it has been since I played,” the ex-Eagles QB said Wednesday. “Cause when you take the balls out of the bag, they are rock hard. And you can’t feel the ball as well. It’s too hard.”

“Everybody puts the pin in and takes just enough air out of the ball that you can feel it a little better. But it’s not the point to where it’s flat. So I don’t know what the big deal is. It’s not something that’s not been done for 20 years.”

Blake says that he’d order ball boys to let air out of his footballs just before the start of games during his entire NFL career, which included time with the Eagles in 2004. Therefore it is my belief that the NFL deliberately went after Tom Brady and the Patriots for something that is common league practice. Things that are common league practice don’t compare to some of the individual team cheats I discovered. Some are very unique. After completing my research I narrowed it down to the top 5 NFL cheaters. The Cowboys are nowhere near the top of the league and right above the Patriots with 22 cheat points as compared to 20 by New England.  The interesting fact I must include is the  Dallas Cowboys had no listing of cheats prior to Jerry Jones buying the team back in 1989. Hat’s off to Tom Landry. As I always said, he is a class act.

Horsegate (90s)

TEAM: The Dallas Cowboys

SEVERITY:scale

SUMMARY: Former Cowboys defensive lineman Tony Casillas says that when the team was winning Super Bowls in the 1990s, players frequently used a medication meant for horses.

Said Casillas: “When I heard about deer antler spray, when I heard that, I said, ‘That’s nothing’. We used to use this stuff called DMSO. That’s what veterinarians put on horses, on a muscle, so this is stuff that you can rub, and we used it in the locker room. We had a bottle and you’d take it. It goes straight to the bloodstream.”

VICTIM: The entire league

PUNISHED? No but … it’s more probable than not that this was cheating

PUNISHMENT: At the time, DMSO wasn’t on the NFL’s banned substance list. But that is because it is meant for horses and no sane NFL official ever considered that a non-horse football player might try to abuse it.

SHARE:

I have to admit, that is an ingenious cheat. I not only wonder who came up with the idea, but what the side effects may have been.

I found it strange that the NFL was quick in the sanction of the bounty gate. I believe the nFL wanted to cover up a bigger problem in NFL, and that was with Illegal gambling and point spread. I believe the biggest issue in the NFL is with the point spread of games and the benefactor of the spread.

It make you wonder if Dallas was given special treatment in the Jayon Smith case in that he was under care by the Cowboy doctor. I wonder what information Cowboy got that may of been different from the rest of the NFL

I highly doubt that. If the Cowboys did that, it would seriously hurt their relations to other teams and teams may not want to trade with them again or at least for a while. I just think Dallas took a stupid gamble and they better hope it pays off.

I have no problem with team trying to get the edge over other team. It called good scouting. I just dont want it to be done in a illegal way/

I believe some of the biggest cheating against the Cowboy have been done by thee Referees, and the league office.
I never ever did understand the ruling on the Dez catch in the Green bay game. It didnt make sense to me, even when the league position was release months after the fact. I assume another rule change will be name after Dez Bryant catch, about the legal definition of a catch and a football move.

I never understood the Suh Reinstatement when he was allowed to play in the Detroit Game that same year. The league never clarified why he was allowed to play despite strong evidence of him trying to injure a player on the ground

    • Gabriel Carrasco

Well you think about it the Cap was implemented to specifically target the 49er’s and Cowboys so other teams could get a chance. They didn’t like Dallas in the Superbowl every year. Push off rule was specifically implemented because it gave Michael Irvin too much of an advantage. And horse collar also because of Roy Williams. To me the Roy Williams one is the only legitimate rule change because it did actually hurt players.

      • californy

Nfl has pass more rules against the Dallas Cowboys, at least more rules name after their player than any other team.

    • Gabriel Carrasco

I am not saying weed is a bad thing or good thing but it’s legal in many states now. But we suspend a player for a little weed, but Suh gets off after he intentionally tries to hurt someone. League has its priorities wrong. Apparently weed paints a worse image than assault basically.

they should change the game PSI for the footballs if it sux for everybody.

  • Lionone1

LoL this is really funny and annoying at the same time. Teams are always trying to get the edge. The Patriots situation is just ridiculous at this point. And they led the league once again with the fewest fumbles. Tom Brady was a baller as always. I think the pot suspensions are terrible. Because alcohol isn’t banned and it’s the most dangerous. This is why I get annoyed with government. People making rules that they don’t even know what they are talking about or have no experience. We tend to throw people into groups when it should always be individual cases. I do agree PED’s should be banned on the other hand I want players to get the best treatment possible after injury so they can come back and play. Don’t get me started on the Dez catch Californy. This is a classic example of over thinking, over analyzing. If he was going out of bounds I’d agree, no catch. But, he was trying to reach for the goaline.
