Tavon AustinKnile Davis (Arkansas State RB) has met with the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys recently and is scheduled to meet with the Arizona Cardinals Monday, April 15.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a strong desire to land West Virginia WR Tavon Austin and could pick him if they don’t trade the No. 13 pick for the NY Jets CB Darrelle Revis.

The Philadelphia Eagles visited with Oklahoma OT Lane Johnson and University of Tennessee OT  Dallas Thomas over the weekend. They feel it is imperative to address the offensive line this offseason. Veteran QB Michael Vick was under constant pressure during the 2012 season.

WR Mike Wallace (Dolphins) reported for voluntary workouts Monday, April 15.

TrentRichardson.RB Trent Richardson (ribs) thinks he may have to always deal with some lingering pain after breaking his ribs in his rookie season. He expects to be 100% by training camp.

S Duke Williams ( Nevada) visited with the Houston Texans Sunday, April 14, and has already participated in private workouts with the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins.

DT Michael Brooks (East Carolina) visited with the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, April 14, according to a league source.

FS Jairus Byrd (Bills) is not expected to show for voluntary conditioning workouts Tuesday, April 16. He hasn’t signed his franchise tender offer yet. He said he is looking for a long-term deal.

QB Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions ) will be at the team’s facility Monday, April 15, for the beginning of the offseason program. He has been at the Lions headquarters almost every day since the end of the 2012 regular season.

KellenMooreThis makes you wonder if he feels threatened by Boise States’ standout QB Kellen Moore, who is currently the winningest QB in NCAA history. He finished his Career 50-3 as a starter. It is a complete turn around from Staffords first few years in the league when he spent most of his time in Florida, or in his native Texas or in Georgia doing offseason training.

Team president Tom Lewand said,

“There is not a guy that’s done more for this franchise in this offseason than Matthew Stafford,” The guy’s been in the building every day. He’s been living here the entire offseason. He’s been working out, he’s helped us recruit free agents, he’s been involved on a daily basis in trying to get ready for the season, and he would do anything to help us be successful.”

Things that make you go hmmm. I still stand firm on my opinion that Kellen Moore was the best QB in the 2012 draft in spite of going undrafted. I honestly believe Stafford is feeling the heat. Last year his offensive coordinator was quoted as saying that Kellen Moore was the smartest QB he has ever been around. If you look at his scouting report next to Tom Bradys’, they are almost identical. The scouts said Russel Wilson was too small as well. Stafford better hope his injury prone past doesn’t continue to haunt him, he may just find himself in the same situation as SF 49ers veteran QB Alex Smith, who forfeited his starting job to 2nd yr QB Collin Kaepernick during the 2012 regular season.

Tyler-Eifert-TE-Notre-Dame-Pic1If the Cleveland Browns trade down in the 1st round, they may consider taking Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert. The  TE position has been a glaring need there. However, there is no way they would reach for him with the 6th overall pick. They have also shown interest in Kent State OL Brian Winters this offseason. The team met with him at the NFL Scouting Combine and had staff members present at his Pro Day.

David Caldwell (Jacksonville Jaguars general manager) said the team will not sign any more free agents until after the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs met with free-agent LB Larry Grant (SF 49ers).

The New England Patriots will be cautious with TE Jake Ballard (knee) during their offseason  workouts because he is recovering from a torn ACL  (anterior cruciate ligament.) Ballard will be ready for the beginning of the regular season and the Patriots are hoping he can be a full participant in the workouts.

RB Jeff Demps (New England Patriots) agent Daniel Rose said, the Patriots are considering the possibility of trading Demps this offseason.

Leslie Frazier (Minnesota Vikings head coach) implied the team is still considering the possibility of moving QB Joe Webb to another position. Frazier said,

“Webb is such a talented athlete that we want to make sure that we’re doing the right thing by him and our team, as well,” That’s something we’ll continue to discuss as we go forward.”

SheldonRichardsonThe Miami Dolphins have been spending a lot of time with University of Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson. They have also conducted a private workout with Utah DT Star Lotulelei, and he is scheduled to meet with the team Monday, April 15.

The New York Jets could consider re-signing free-agent LB Calvin Pace this offseason and have recently met with Rutgers CB Logan Ryan.

The Cincinnati Bengals are having contract talks with free-agent LB James Harrison (Steelers) and will try to reach an agreement some time this week.

The Buffalo Bills met with University of Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson, Southern Methodist LB Ja’Gared Davis and Harvard FB Kyle Juszczyk Friday, April 12.

The Miami Dolphins have not ruled out the possibility of signing free-agent DE John Abraham (Falcons), but they have not spoken with him since showing initial interest They have not shown any interest in free-agent OT Bryant McKinnie (Ravens) or OT Tyson Clabo (Falcons) yet because they want to see if they can get an offensive tackle during the 2013 NFL Draft.

ChanceWarmack3The New York Giants are showing a lot of interest in University of Alabama OG Chance Warmack because they believe he would be a good fit in their offensive scheme. You should have no fear Cowboys faithful, the Dallas Cowboys pick one spot ahead of the division rivals, but who knows, they may try and trade up to stop the Cowboys from landing him.

OT Bobby Massie is a candidate to have a breakout season in 2013. Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said, but he did not say if the team will be using Massie at offensive tackle or offensive guard next season.

The Washington Redskins could use LB Bryan Kehl at either inside  or outside linebacker next season.

Due to his speed and pass-catching ability. RB Roy Helu could beat RB Evan Royster for the No. 2 running back job in 2013.

DE Justin Tuck (New York Giants) indicated he would be a veteran mentor for Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o if the Giants pick him in the 2013 Draft.

“Say he does end up with us, hopefully that is something I can help him with,” Tuck said. “And help other guys. I can move the conversation on and say, Listen man, he made a mistake. Hopefully, wherever he ends up, there is a vet guy with that same mentality because the guy can play football.”

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said DT Akiem Hicks will initially be tried out at nose tackle during offseason workouts, but will also be taught how to play the defensive end position in the team’s 3-4 defensive scheme. Rob Ryan is one who likes to have his guys able to play multiple positions along the line.

Denver Broncos v Baltimore RavensThe Denver Broncos and NE Patriots, showed interest in CB Antoine Winfield and the Minnesota Vikings offered CB Antoine Winfield more guaranteed money than the Seattle Seahawks did, but Winfield decided to sign with the Seahawks. He received $1 million in guaranteed money from Seattle.

QB Peyton Manning is learning that he can’t throw the deep ball with as much velocity or accuracy as he could before the four neck surgeries, and said he has to adjust. Manning isn’t concerned with it because he knows nerve regeneration can take years. However, he has been able to use what he has and doesn’t worry too much about his limitations..

good stuff, thank you. 10 days baby,  heres hoping the cowboys do well!

    • osnappp Heck ya, I always get nervous at draft time though, you never know what JJ is going to do. He is so impulsive. Like last yr, no one, and I mean no one,, saw that trade up coming!

CowgirlCas22 osnappp I flipped out, I kept yelling they traded up for the safety, then i was in shock.  I’m with you though, no splashy moves.  Stick to the trenches or safety.  a qb or wr in the first 3 rounds would hurt.  if the top 5 ol are gone for 18, i’d be thrilled with a trade down…

        • osnappp CowgirlCas22 I agree 100% this draft needs to focus on the trenches on both sides of the ball.
