In this episode of the Red Light Sports Ramble, Evan and Troy discuss the four NFL Divisional Round playoff games. When Sunday was over, there are four teams left for the coveted Lombardi Trophy. Evan and Troy had a clean sweep predicting the NFC winners, but flip flopped in the AFC. Listen to their breakdown of the NFL playoff games.
The first NFL Divisional Round playoff game pitted the New Orleans Saints against the Seattle Seahawks. This was a rematch from earlier in the year, in which the Seahawks dominated. The score may have been closer than how the game was actually played. The biggest key was the Seattle defense smothering the Saints and not letting Jimmy Graham get involved until the very last series. Secondly, as both Evan and Troy had stated in the preview, it would most likely be the Marshawn Lynch show again, and he did not disappoint leading the Seahawks rushing attack. In the end, the saints made it a finish, but the Seattle Seahawks will be hosting the NFC Championship Game.
Staying in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers traveled to Carolina where Cam Newton made his first NFL Playoff start. Things did not turn out as planned. Newton turned the ball over twice with interceptions and was pressured for a majority of the day. The 49er defense stopped Carolina 7 times on goal to go situations and only allowed 3 points. This game had the makings of a backyard brawl with all the jawing and childlike actions taking place on the field, but in the end it was a convincing 49er win. So next week, the 49ers travel to Seattle for the 3rd match-up of the season. The teams split games at home this year.
The first AFC playoff game was Saturday night in a cold rainy Gillette Stadium. The New England Patriots basically had their way with the Indianapolis Colts this evening. A key to the game was for the Indianapolis Colts to start fast and keep the pressure on the New England Patriots. However, the exact opposite happened and the New England Patriots took full advantage of every opportunity. LeGarrette Blount ran for 166 yards and 4 scores as the Patriots cruised to the AFC Championship Game one more time.
The final NFL playoff game of the weekend was played in Denver. The San Diego Chargers came in with a ton of confidence and played solid football. However, from the start of the game you would not have thought this was a playoff game. The Denver Broncos were in complete control of the game from start to finish. Although, the San Diego Chargers mounted a comeback in the 4th quarter, it never seemed like their was one momentum swing in this game. Peyton Manning orchestrated a game plan that included long drives ending in points and set up another NFL Playoff showdown between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.
