Conference championshipIn this episode of the Red Light Sports Ramble, Evan and Troy discuss the four NFL Divisional Round playoff games.  When Sunday was over, there are four teams left for the coveted Lombardi Trophy.  Evan and Troy had a clean sweep predicting the NFC winners, but flip flopped in the AFC.  Listen to their breakdown of the NFL playoff games.

The first NFL Divisional Round playoff game pitted the New Orleans Saints against the Seattle Seahawks.  This was a rematch from earlier in the year, in which the Seahawks dominated.  The score may have been closer than how the game was actually played.  The biggest key was the Seattle defense smothering the Saints and not letting Jimmy Graham get involved until the very last series.  Secondly, as both Evan and Troy had stated in the preview, it would most likely be the Marshawn Lynch show again, and he did not disappoint leading the Seahawks rushing attack. In the end, the saints made it a finish, but the Seattle Seahawks will be hosting the NFC Championship Game.

Staying in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers traveled to Carolina where Cam Newton made his first NFL Playoff start.  Things did not turn out as planned.  Newton turned the ball over twice with interceptions and was pressured for a majority of the day.  The 49er defense stopped Carolina 7 times on goal to go situations and only allowed 3 points.  This game had the makings of a backyard brawl with all the jawing and childlike actions taking place on the field, but in the end it was a convincing 49er win.  So next week, the 49ers travel to Seattle for the 3rd match-up of the season.  The teams split games at home this year.

The first AFC playoff game was Saturday night in a cold rainy Gillette Stadium.  The New England Patriots basically had their way with the Indianapolis Colts this evening.  A key to the game was for the Indianapolis Colts to start fast and keep the pressure on the New England Patriots.  However, the exact opposite happened and the New England Patriots took full advantage of every opportunity.  LeGarrette Blount ran for 166 yards and 4 scores as the Patriots cruised to the AFC Championship Game one more time.

The final NFL playoff game of the weekend was played in Denver.  The San Diego Chargers came in with a ton of confidence and played solid football.  However, from the start of the game you would not have thought this was a playoff game.  The Denver Broncos were in complete control of the game from start to finish.  Although, the San Diego Chargers mounted a comeback in the 4th quarter, it never seemed like their was one momentum swing in this game.  Peyton Manning orchestrated a game plan that included long drives ending in points and set up another NFL Playoff showdown between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Listen in for a more in-depth recap of these games.

I am curious on how the ref will call the game, Seattle is notorious at pass interference. As long as they called it even I am Ok with it

Seattle has a unnamed LB who been playing well in the defense. In order for a SF win they must attack at the edges on the run game and commit to use Kapernick as much as possible in the run game as well. Seattle mirrors at what SF does best too.

I believe NO try to force the ball through Graham and it killed them when the other receiver and TE were open. I saw a bad game plan by NO in this one. I was amaze more at how well NO played on defense.. I give credit to the NO defense more than Seattle failure in not being able to score

I saw the hotdogging in the SF and Panther game a waist of time and energy. The team should concentrate their effort before the whistle not after. SF had the edge in the breaks in this one. SF defense played light out at 5 sacks in this game. I was impressed with SF DE on 3 goal line stance he had in that game.

Andrew Luck never had a chance with an offense that has no balance. You cant pass to victory. Luck is a turnover a machine

    • ya but it wont be national news like it would be if it was Romo

  • californy

NE dominated in all areas of the game, that how you win games on the ground attack

  • californy

Patriots were the number 1 run team in TD in 2012. I always knew they had that ability

  • californy

NO lost that game, months ago when they got rid of their FG kicker of last year and earlier year

  • californy

SD was committed to the run game, when in this game they should of been attacking more in the pass game. They are more suspect in the passing vs the run defense

  • californy

SD defense was terrible down the stretch in the 3rd and long.
