The Dallas Cowboys are a team that loves to take you on a roller coaster ride. They can lift you in the air with hopes and dreams. Then they crash and sink like the Titanic!
One second you are drinking the Jerry-Aid mix with the usual bull: believing the Dallas Cowboys have a chance. The next you are drinking the Three Amigos (Jack, Jim, and Jose’). You feel like singing the famous McFadden and Whitehead song; “There’s No Stopping Us Nowâ€, but now you feel ling singing that Rolls Royce classic; “I’m Going Downâ€!
You know it is bad when your doctor tells you to change teams so he can take you off the high blood pressure medication during the football season. You know what Dr. S., I might have to consider your suggestion. The Dallas Cowboys are becoming hazardous to my health.
I did not watch the Thanksgiving Day game and from what I am reading, I am glad I slept through the whole thing. Â I figure the rust everyone expected to see from Tony Romo in the Miami Dolphins game decided to come forth during the Carolina Panther game.
As I am reading on and on and on about how this is “typical†Tony Romo, I am thinking maybe it is also typical coaching. However, I have to give it to Tony. Either flop big or do not flop at all. Three interceptions with two of them returned for touchdowns is a pretty huge flop. Many fans and I can defend him until we turn purple in the face. Everyone will remember performances like this last one and judge him. They do not want to remember times where he bailed out the defense when they gave up touchdowns in closing moments of games. Dallas Cowboys fans got a glimpse of this team without Tony Romo under center. Even with the return of Dez Bryant (Although he was not at 100%), the offense suffered.Every Dallas Cowboys fan had to see the writing on the wall leading up to this game. I tell my friends all the time,
“When the NFL Network, ESPN, and other sports outlets start riding the Cowboys tailcoats talking about they will win, they are due for a huge let downâ€.
I did not expect a great win, but I did expect the game to be more competitive. Having the odds makers in Vegas place the 10-0 Panthers as underdogs did not help the situation much either. Take nothing away from the Dallas Cowboys defense. You take away the two interception returns and the Carolina Panthers only scored 19 points. That is nothing compared to what they did to the Washington Redskins last week and a few other teams throughout the season. Ron Rivera had his defense ready for this matchup because he knew they would be the key to winning this game. Both teams have offenses that can rack up points. The defense that forced the other team’s offense into stupid mistakes and turnovers would decide the winner. Well, we know how that ended.
Now the fun starts first with the media, then the fans, and it ends with the Dallas Cowboys themselves. The media will pick Tony Romo apart and talk about the greatness of Cam Newton. They will keep talking about “is the window closing on these Cowboysâ€. After the frenzy in the media, the fans of other teams will start the “Are they still dem boys†chants and talk about the ineffectiveness of Tony Romo and this offense.
They will discuss how we “miss†DeMarco Murray. Finally, we end in Dallas where Jerry Jones will be making more Jerry-aid. Coach Jason Garrett will spoon-feed us the usual lines about watching tape and making adjustments. He will give us a heaping helping of the rehearsed lines. The same ones he has given since he became head coach: after he tanked the offense to get Wade’s job. (Yeah, I said it!).
We the Dallas Cowboys fans have to sit and take the constant badgering year after year. No matter how many times this team falls on its face, it still stings. It is time for someone or some people to be held accountable for the place this team is in. To place the rest of a season on one person’s arm is not far. I wonder what happened to the statement “Next Man Up†in that Cowboys locker room!?! Before I get my blood pressure up again, I digress.
In closing, there is one thing I must say. No matter what is going on in the world. Whether it is sports or any other major event, the Dallas Cowboys are always the main topic of conversation. Serena Williams was on her way to a Tennis Grand Slam and the sports world was talking about the Cowboys practice fights.
The Royals won the World Series and the sports world only talked about the Cowboys losing streak. An NFL player was shot in the head and the only talk was how the odds makers were picking the Cowboys over the Panthers. It just amazes me how there are 31 other teams in this league with millions of fans and the team everyone wants to discuss is the Dallas Cowboys. People hate them when they win and love them when they lose. Either way, they HAVE to talk about that team in Dallas with the star on their helmets. Moreover, people wonder why they are and forever will be “America’s Teamâ€. How ‘Bout Dem Cowboys!  (I had to end on a good note because this season is driving me crazy!)
