Dallas Cowboys: The Ride That Never Ends

The Dallas Cowboys are a team that loves to take you on a roller coaster ride. They can lift you in the air with hopes and dreams. Then they crash and sink like the Titanic!

Dallas Cowboys QB, Tony Romo, sustains season ending injury vs Panthers

One second you are drinking the Jerry-Aid mix with the usual bull: believing the Dallas Cowboys have a chance. The next you are drinking the Three Amigos (Jack, Jim, and Jose’). You feel like singing the famous McFadden and Whitehead song; “There’s No Stopping Us Now”, but now you feel ling singing that Rolls Royce classic; “I’m Going Down”!

You know it is bad when your doctor tells you to change teams so he can take you off the high blood pressure medication during the football season. You know what Dr. S., I might have to consider your suggestion. The Dallas Cowboys are becoming hazardous to my health.

Romo DownI did not watch the Thanksgiving Day game and from what I am reading, I am glad I slept through the whole thing.  I figure the rust everyone expected to see from Tony Romo in the Miami Dolphins game decided to come forth during the Carolina Panther game.

As I am reading on and on and on about how this is “typical” Tony Romo, I am thinking maybe it is also typical coaching. However, I have to give it to Tony. Either flop big or do not flop at all. Three interceptions with two of them returned for touchdowns is a pretty huge flop. Many fans and I can defend him until we turn purple in the face. Everyone will remember performances like this last one and judge him. They do not want to remember times where he bailed out the defense when they gave up touchdowns in closing moments of games. Dallas Cowboys fans got a glimpse of this team without Tony Romo under center. Even with the return of Dez Bryant (Although he was not at 100%), the offense suffered.Every Dallas Cowboys fan had to see the writing on the wall leading up to this game. I tell my friends all the time,

“When the NFL Network, ESPN, and other sports outlets start riding the Cowboys tailcoats talking about they will win, they are due for a huge let down”.

I did not expect a great win, but I did expect the game to be more competitive. Having the odds makers in Vegas place the 10-0 Panthers as underdogs did not help the situation much either.  Take nothing away from the Dallas Cowboys defense. You take away the two interception returns and the Carolina Panthers only scored 19 points. That is nothing compared to what they did to the Washington Redskins last week and a few other teams throughout the season. Ron Rivera had his defense ready for this matchup because he knew they would be the key to winning this game. Both teams have offenses that can rack up points. The defense that forced the other team’s offense into stupid mistakes and turnovers would decide the winner. Well, we know how that ended.

Now the fun starts first with the media, then the fans, and it ends with the Dallas Cowboys themselves. The media will pick Tony Romo apart and talk about the greatness of Cam Newton. They will keep talking about “is theDefense window closing on these Cowboys”. After the frenzy in the media, the fans of other teams will start the “Are they still dem boys” chants and talk about the ineffectiveness of Tony Romo and this offense.

They will discuss how we “miss” DeMarco Murray. Finally, we end in Dallas where Jerry Jones will be making more Jerry-aid. Coach Jason Garrett will spoon-feed us the usual lines about watching tape and making adjustments. He will give us a heaping helping of the rehearsed lines. The same ones he has given since he became head coach: after he tanked the offense to get Wade’s job. (Yeah, I said it!).

We the Dallas Cowboys fans have to sit and take the constant badgering year after year. No matter how many times this team  falls on its face, it still stings. It is time for someone or some people to be held accountable for the place this team is in. To place the rest of a season on one person’s arm is not far. I wonder what happened to the statement “Next Man Up” in that Cowboys locker room!?! Before I get my blood pressure up again, I digress.

In closing, there is one thing I must say. No matter what is going on in the world. Whether it is sports or any other major event, the Dallas Cowboys are always the main topic of conversation. Serena Williams was on her way to a Tennis Grand Slam and the sports world was talking about the Cowboys practice fights.

The Royals won the World Series and the sports world only talked about the Cowboys losing streak. An NFL player was shot in the head and the only talk was how the odds makers were picking the Cowboys over the Panthers. It just amazes me how there are 31 other teams in this league with millions of fans and the team everyone wants to discuss is the Dallas Cowboys. People hate them when they win and love them when they lose. Either way, they HAVE to talk about that team in Dallas with the star on their helmets. Moreover, people wonder why they are and forever will be “America’s Team”. How ‘Bout Dem Cowboys!  (I had to end on a good note because this season is driving me crazy!)

Luke Kuechly read our offense like a book. He knew exactly what we were doing. Sick of our offense. We are still stuck in the 90’s, we are the only team who doesn’t use pick plays. It took us almost ten years to learn how to use a crossing route. I am down right sick of watching our team. Our defense sucks too, but at least they have the option of not having that many good players on it, the offense has zero excuse. We have know idea how to use multiple RB. We pass on 3rd and 2 a TE screen to Escobar who has done a whole lot of nothing. Garrett hasn’t won with a backup QB since McGee in 2010. Parcells fielded perhaps the worst team ever led by Quincy Carter and took them to the playoffs, they were talent deprived. Garrett doesn’t even win a single game with injuries to only a few players.

A lof of fans seen me as a hater.  I dont care.  I have never been a person who boast what he will do on the field without backing it up.  So many people buy into the media and what they say on the Cowboys.  The Media love to talk about the Cowboys.  They build them up just so they can take them down.  Even  Las Vegas had the Cowboy favor by one point, yeah right.

For me the Cowboys will never be a significant team until they learn to live in the present and reject the media talk, and it drive for popularity.  The best thing the Cowboys can do is to stop all the media they are sending out, close all the door to media in post Practices and kick out the media in all Locker room whether they win or lose.  Cowboy need to encourage all their player to stay off the social media or even comment about the team activities and what goes in the locker room

The concept of Locker room harmony is a concept I don’t believe in.  I want player to play hard and for their job every week.  It the lack of accountability which has hurt this team big time.  It doesn’t matter where a player was drafted at, what matter is this team play it best player on game day.  NE, Seattle, Carolina and GB are some of the team that play most of the player they dress out.  If a player doesn’t possess game playing ability, he shouldn’t be on this team.

The Cowboys love the labels.  I reject the labels and the talk of popularity over more super bowl trophies.  A team who work hard, play hard, and leaves it on the field doesn’t need any articles written about them.  My guess is a good team best opponent is the team they face in practices.  That how I wished the state of the Cowboys would be.
