Jason Garrett Abandons Run, Throws Romo Under the Bus

I may have said this before, in fact I know I have, but when will Jason Garrett run out of fall guys? This isn’t the first time this team has abandoned a successful running game. It isn’t the first time poor game management has cost the Cowboys a win. When will enough be enough? Jason Garrett reminds me of a sniveling little weasel. There were 30 minutes in the second half and the Cowboys returned to the field with a twenty three point lead! 23 points sports fans!

Jerry Jones said in the press conference, he doesn't get mad. Really?
Jerry Jones said in the press conference, he doesn’t get mad. Really?

DeMarco Murray was averaging 7.4 yards per carry which is way above average by NFL standards. The brain trust decides to only call seven, yes 7 run plays in the entire second half! How does Jason Garrett address it? Almost immediately after stepping in front of the cameras, he comes out with, Tony Romo checked out of the run play that resulted in an interception. Are you kidding me? They only called seven in the entire half to begin with!

His next attempt at once again trying to pass his incompetence off on someone else is saying, yes Bill was calling the plays. Did this moron forget he already told the media all play calls by Bill Callahan would go through him before getting relayed to Tony Romo? Try again Opie.

It’s obvious the members of the media are finally seeing where the blame really lies. The next question addressed to Jason Garrett was: well how many were run plays when you were trying to burn clock. Jason Garrett choked up, put on his best political face and said,

” I don’t have that off the top of my head.”

Jason Garrett 2
Ummm, gosh, I don’t know how many times we ran the ball

Are you kidding me Jason Garrett? You are the head coach of a “Professional” football team and don’t know how many times you ran the ball? Give me a break! That Ivy League political brain was in self preservation mode and dodging the question or you’re dumber than a box of rocks. I say he stuck with plan A, throw Romo and Callahan under the bus! God forbid he ever admit a mistake, or shoulder some blame.

How stupid does he think we are? Some things never change! I have written at least 20 articles pointing out not only abandoning the run, but poor clock management, poor game management, and that this pass pass pass mentality inevitably leads to interceptions. Add to that constantly trying to force the ball down-field instead of attacking underneath with the short passing game. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH OPIE! Admit it, you’re in way over your head!

The fact of the matter is: Jason Garrett called 3 run plays and 15 pass plays in the 4th quarter. All Jason Garrett could come up with was, Tony Romo checked out of the run play? Oh, and Bill Callahan was calling the plays. You sniveling little weasel! You relayed every one of those plays to Tony Romo! What freaking head coach in his right mind calls 5 times as many pass plays as run plays when they have the lead in the 4th quarter?

You can blame Romo and Callahan all you want Jason Garrett, the fact of the matter is, you’re the heart of this teams short comings. I really wish I would have been at that press conference because my first questions would have been: why were Tony Romo and Jason Witten yelling at you on the sidelines? Why does Jason Witten walk right by you and not give a hand smack like the younger players do when they come off of the field?

I have a pretty good idea why: these guys are not only veteran players that played under a hall of fame head coach (Bill Parcells), but they have been starters for years and understand what needs to be done on the field. Jason Garrett on the other hand, spent his career carrying Troy Aikmans clip board. Enough said!

Wow Nice Article Cas, Yeah it does make me wonder what was said yo JG on the sideline. My guess was Witten was being single covered and they were not going to him. I wonder what Tony Romo was saying, I know they target Dez a lot in the first half, I think he had like 125 yards at half time but only 27 the rest of the game. I be honest I am not sure.

  • californy

I was mad in the first half with the lack of run attempts, and even Troy pointed that out several time in the game. The last time being in the 4th quarter when they went 3 passes and gave back the ball to The Packer in a 3 and out. Cowboys dont know how to close out games

  • californy

It amaze me how bad and yet how lucky the boys have been in their schedule. How many team get the luck of the draw and get to play 5 back up QB in the last 5 games of the year in a row, so far we are 1-2 down this stretch

  • californy

I could be wrong but I believed Murray in the first half was averaging 11 per touch, and yet we still ran the ball 8 to 19 to the pass in the first half.

  • californy

Words has it we had 332 yards in the first half and 132 in the second half. This team is not closing games.

    • it’s poor coaching plain and simple. GB made adjustments at half time and JG was clueless

  • Gabriel Carrasco

We were averaging more yards on the ground than in the air, so no excuse there. 7 yards a freaking carry, is a monsterous number in the NFL, some backs would love to just have 4.5 or 5 yards a carry, yet we abandon the run game.

    • like dad always says: “YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID”

  • Gabriel Carrasco

I am interested Cas what do you think of Dez leaving the field with 1:21 left in the game. I think it is inexcusable, but at the same time I don’t blame him.

    • It’s inexcusable to his teammates, but I can understand the resentment. This team went out, played hard and secured a win, only for the coach to throw it away!

  • Gabriel Carrasco

Worst game management ever. Not only that, but yes this is the worst loss we have ever had, we had the game wrapped up at half time, we just needed to beat them into submission, and win, and we didn’t. The staff needs to be investigated, cause I am starting to think they are throwing games.

    • I wonder if JG is on the take or just that incompetent

  • Gabriel Carrasco

I have never met a coach that intentionally throws his players under the bus, much less the QB. I hope Garrett gets the same treatment as Wade, which he didn’t deserve by the way.

    • TXRed66

Last week Stephen Jones called out Ware, Lee and Spencer. Said they need to step up and play better.
Why not call out the players on defense who consistently lose for us?

  • frank

the cowboys are now the jokes of the nfl now thanks to Jerry and jason. It’s a joke. the pack couldn’t stop Murray but they kept putting the ball in the air. But as usual Jason says in his press conference we will wait to look at the tape what’s there to look at but the same old garbage. he must like horror films because that’s what cowboy game films look like

    • I am ready to jump ship. I can’t handle getting ridiculed in public every time this coaching staff gives a game away!

      • Lil J Moore

I jumped ship after the bears game. 22 out of 24 years of defending this team and I’ve completely lost faith in them. Thanks Jerry and JG

        • It’s a sad situation.

        • boysdeporvida

LOL 22 out of 24 years Dallas last Super Bowl was in 1996 thats 17 years.

          • Lil J Moore

I’ve been supporting them since before they won the 3 three superbowls in the 90’s. I was two when I started watching them in 1991.

      • frank

the ridiculed part couldn’t agree more about 2 dozen giant fans I had to hear from already today, but been a fan to long to let Jerry and jason ruin that for me. I thought about it when dumb ass fired Landry when he came on but didn’t then so I can’t now. maybe this latest mockery will get jg fired that will be our silver lining in this season. (def 28)

So if you could pick an organization to model the cowboys after, which would it be? Im not quite sure how the operation is handled, but Ill tell you those seahwks play a brutaly fierce brand of football. Ive been in awe of that team since they whooped dallas in week 2 last year. They are just different

  • Gabriel Carrasco

Other than the defense, our players on offense played farely well, we lost purely because of coaching, not because of the ineptness of the players.

  • Rick Springfield

I’ve been a Cowboys fan since 69′ and always will be. As a rule (my rule) and because it’s just the way I am, I make it a point not to bash or run down my favorite team (it’s getting more difficult to follow that rule) because I don’t feel it helps anyone. “BUT” the second half yesterday was the worst example of coaching, play calling, game management (you name it) that I have ever seen in my 45 years of watching Dallas Cowboys football. Of course, some of the players could have and should have played better, but with the way things were handled by the coaching staff, I’m not sure how much of a difference it would have made. I know this is a ridiculous comment, but if I were the owner, the coaching staff (and the owner also for that matter) would have had their offices cleaned out before the sun came up this morning. I still and will always bleed silver & blue till the bitter end. Go Cowboys.

    • Excellent points. Thank You for sharing. You got to be a part of Landrys dynasty when the cowboys were winners. I haven’t seen a playoff win since I was a kid.

      • Rick Springfield

I can see how you must be extremely frustrated (year after year), and except for being old, I consider myself extremely lucky when it comes to Cowboys football. Not only did I get to watch a True American Hero (STAUBACH) play for probably the best coach ever (LANDRY) while winning Suber Bowls, but I was also lucky enough to watch another HOF QB play for another great coach, also while winning Super Bowls. Now if by some miracle, management can be overhauled or replaced (or something), America’s Team will get back to what it should be. You seem to have an excellent knowledge of football and a real love for the Cowboys and I really hope you get to see what I’ve seen – the Cowboys holding up that trophy soon.

        • Thank You, but at this point I am not holding my breath. This team is nowhere near ready to be a contender

          • TXRed66

I agree Cowgirlcas22. I have been a fan literally since birth, watching on my Dad’s knee. It used to be an honor and privilege to wear the Star. These players do not have any pride, or so it seems.
They are embarrassing to watch and JJ needs to let a real GM with football knowledge take over ALL football operations. He needs to stay in his office and sign the checks. Let a real coach and GM return this franchise to its winning ways.

        • boysdeporvida

LOL if she is that young, I believe she will get to see the Cowboys win a SB.The Cowboys will win SB’s in this decade. Like I mention before, Dallas always skips a decade before they win a SB again.
          60’s No SB’s
          70’s 2 SB’s
          80’s No SB’s
          90’s 3 SB’s
          00’s No SB’s
10’s watch out Cowboys fan cuz we have some SB’s to celebrate in this Decade. Go Cowboys!!

  • californy

I was looking at the box score on this sunday, and I saw only one QB
Wilson who threw a Interception with less than 30 passes thrown, all
The rest of the QB who threw less than 30 Passes had no interception. I
always said this about not wanting a QB to throw over 30 passes in a
game. All the rest of the QB who threw over 30 Passes had Interception and many more than 1 also

    • that’s the same point I was making in the article by pointing out they pass pass pass

  • rh_stranger1

I dont have enough fingers to point at everyone that failed in this game. Right at the top would be garrett and callahan. No words can express how bone headed they were with the passes. Romo checked out of a run to a pass. He is just as guilty as they are. He is the last line of defense against idiotic play calling, and he jumped right on the bandwagon, then throws int’s on top of it. Im completely baffled. Then there is our doomsday defense. They just suck really bad. They have no chance. The offense is filled with morons, and the defense is filled with incapables. And that brings me to the top of the blame list….jerry this is the team and coaching staff you handpicked! Oh but as you stated you are doing some of the best work you have ever done. And his comments on why he doesnt hire a gm are flat terrifying. Jerry actually thinks a gm would just be a middle man. Another scout to bring him reports on prospects. This is the dark ages of cowboys football. This torture is mid evil. And there is no end in sight. The foul stinch of plague contaminating the air we breathe
